Chapter 8: Exploring Geometrical Figures

Congruence means two figures are exactly the same shape and size; similarity means the same shape at possibly a different size. Exploring Geometrical Figures introduces both at a recognition level, alongside line and rotational symmetry across common 2-D shapes.

The two ideas get confused often — a similar-looking figure isn't necessarily identical in size, and matching angles alone doesn't guarantee congruence unless the sides match too. A square and a larger square are similar but not congruent; two squares of the exact same side length are both. Getting comfortable with the distinction now matters more than it might seem: both become fully proof-based in Class 9's Triangles chapter and Class 10's Similar Triangles chapter.
