Chapter 3: The Elements of Geometry

The Elements of Geometry is a genuinely different kind of chapter — instead of calculating an answer, students reason logically from Euclid's definitions, postulates and axioms, the small set of "obviously true" starting statements all of formal geometry builds from, such as "a straight line can be drawn joining any two points."

Confusing a postulate (assumed true without proof) with a theorem (proved using postulates and logic) is a common early mistake, as is restating what needs to be proved as if it were already given. Everything covered here is direct preparation for the proof-based geometry that follows for the rest of Class 9, starting with the very next chapter.
